Vega Sicilia is back in the winners enclosure and two runners travel to Haydock
Last night Vega Sicilia travelled to Goodwood to run in the ‘Racing With Pride Handicap’ for owners John Basquill and Dan Gilbert. He stayed towards the rear of the field but still in touch with the leaders, despite not getting the clearest of runs over 2 furlongs out the gap came around a furlong from home in which he quickened well and took the lead inside the final 100 yards. He had his fair share of 2nd places prior to this race so it was great to see him get his head back in front under a strong ride from Hector Crouch.
Today we send out two runners to Haydock.
Billabong is our first runner of the day and runs in the ‘Lydiate Restricted Maiden Stakes (For Horses In Bands B, C And D)’ for owners P Inglett, S de Zoete, N Jones and Partner. He made his racecourse debut on the 19th May at Newbury over 1 mile 2 furlongs with blinkers and showed that he needed the run. Hopefully he should have taken alot out of the race and improved. Blinkers have been left off today in the field of 6 runners, he has been drawn 4 with Luke Morris taking the ride. He also makes a step up in trip to 1 mile 3 furlongs for the first time.
Lillistar is our second runner today and runs in the ‘Lathom Handicap’ for owner Tony Bloom. On her first start back after a short break this year she pulled up with an irregular heartbeat. She was checked over by the vets at home and all was fine so we went to Leicester a month later in which she put in a very strong performance to finish 2nd beaten less than a length. Today she continues over 1 mile 2 furlongs in a field of 9 runners, she has been drawn 10 with Luke Morris taking the ride also.
