Finest Leader takes the win at Wetherby

 In Beckhampton News

Yesterday we sent Finest Leader to Wetherby to run in the ‘Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Handicap’ for owners P Inglett, A Bengough & Lady Tidbury. He had shown promise as a two year old but had been a little disappointing on his two starts as a three year old. He went into the race yesterday in good order and was stepped up in trip to 1 mile 2 furlongs for the first time. With the ground being quicker yesterday than his previous two starts we hoped that he would show some promise again. Despite a slightly awkward start he soon recovered and raced in 2nd, he was pushed along from 3 furlongs out and stayed on well to win the race by a neck under jockey Clifford Lee.

Hydration is our first runner of the day and runs in the ‘Tune In To Weekend Winners Handicap’ at Newbury for owners Brook Farm Bloodstock. He was a winner as a 2 year old over 7 furlongs on the all weather surface at Kempton. He was then gelded and given a winter break before making his 3 year old debut at Windsor last month over 6 furlongs. Despite pulling hard he put in a promising performance to finish 3rd. Today he makes his handicap debut back over 6 furlongs in a field of 8 runners. He has been drawn 8 with Kieran Shoemark on board.

Discretion heads to Newbury to run in the ‘Bet In Running At BetVictor Fillies’ Handicap’. She is a four year old filly by Dubawi and a winner of two races so far over a mile and 1 mile 2 furlongs. She made her 4 year old debut 2 weeks ago and put in a strong performance finishing a close 6th over a mile. Today she drops back to 7 furlongs in a field of 8 runners. She has been drawn 6 with James Doyle takes the ride.

Stage Show is a three year old gelding by Showcasing who heads to Newbury to run in the ‘Gamble Responsibly At BetVictor Handicap’ for owners Brook Farm Bloodstock. He had 2 runs as a two year old and made his 3 year old debut at Kempton in April finishing 4th over 7 furlongs, he then followed it up at Ascot over a mile finishing 3rd. Today he steps up in trip to 1 mile 2 furlongs in a field of 9 runners. He has been drawn 6 with Trevor Whelan taking the ride.

Merlin the Wizard travels to Kempton to run in the ‘More Extra Place Races At Unibet Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I)’ for owner Imad Alsagar. He made his racecourse debut as a 2 year old at Kempton over 7 furlongs and put in a promising performance to finish 2nd. He then followed it up 5 months later after a winter break making his 3 year old debut at Newmarket over a mile. He put in a strong performance to finish 5th in a hot Newmarket novice despite being hampered inside the final furlong. Today the race has a field of 14 runners and he has been drawn 10. Hollie Doyle takes the ride.

Eyeshadow is our final runner of the day and runs in the ‘More Extra Place Races At Unibet Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div II)’ for owners Juddmonte. She is a three year old filly by Expert Eye who made her racecourse debut last month over 7 furlongs. She should have taken a lot on from her run and hopefully see some improvement in her today. The race today has a field of 13 runners and she has been drawn 2. Richard Kingscote takes the ride.
