Besieged powers home at Salisbury

On Tuesday, Besieged travelled to Salisbury Racecourse to contest the Kingsclere Racing Club Maiden Stakes on behalf of owners Al Shaqab Racing and Rockcliffe Stud. Having finished runner-up on both of his previous starts, he arrived at Salisbury with a strong chance of going one better. The significant rainfall during the week played to his strengths, as his knee action is well suited to softer conditions. Ridden confidently by Lewis Edmunds, Besieged travelled smoothly throughout before taking up the lead just over a furlong from home. From there, he quickly put the race to bed, to surge clear of his rivals and score by an impressive 14 lengths. It was an impressive performance and one that suggested there could be plenty more to come from this progressive colt.
